Ou Skip Caravan and camping site Melkbosstrand
A truly remarkable caravan and camping site, within easy driving distance of Blouberg Strand (12km) and Cape Town.
Security scores a 3 out of 5 due to opportunistic theft of small appliances (we live in a real world) but prompt security response and adequate entry permission. No day visitors allowed, with 'Zero Tolerance' approach which ads to overall noise and safety.
Reception friendly and helpful, credit card facility, numerous (new) magazines, pamphlets and info available.
Ablution very clean and hygenic, seperate areas for washing/drying and chemical disposal.
Nearly all stands grassed with shade, power and clean water within reach.
Half size olympic swimming pool, kiddies pool, putt-putt, trampolines, tv room with pool table and vast play park for keeping the kiddies at bay, all surrounded by well kept lawn.
Conference centre, communual braai area for bigger groups, and well stocked shop (enquire about open times).
No gravel roads to travel, sea opposite roadway within easy walking distance.
Shopping mall with all the usual shops in Melkbos Town (about 10 minute drive) and hiking/sightseeing trips around.
Rates in medium range, but access to all the facilities within the park for free
Looking to camp and be near CapeTown and Blouberg with rated restaurants etc.? This is the place to be!

Hollandsche Molen Wemmershoek
Grass well kept, neat and green with adequate shade
Security above normal with night patrol, leave your braai equipment outside!
Daily fees very reasonable, same price per stand throughout the year on purchasing a 'life long' membership for R 250 once off
Well stocked shop, ladies bar area with big screen tv (and wedding venue!)
Various swimming pools fed by fresh river water and kept clean
No gravel entrance road, also "Zero Tolerance' regarding behaviour, loud music, excessive noise and partying.
Friendly, helpful staff, a spot I can recommend without hesitation
Independent caravan and camping site review - Western Cape South Africa
As a dedicated traveller to caravan and camping sites, herewith an Independent review of my findings to date.
More will be posted as touring progresses and will build this up to include most spots in South Africa.
It is purely based on my personal experiences and therfore totally independent of official associations, touring guides etc.
I am not affiliated to any tour group and report the 'good' and the 'not so good' aspects (and also the bad!) by talking to campers I meet.
It involves all aspects, from security, neatness, ablution etc. All these will be covered by using my own grading system and overall 'feel' I experience, and whether I will re-visit them in their current state.
Pics are my own and taken on site when i do a review. I hope this can assist avid campers and caravanners in making a decision as i have burnt my fingers not knowing what to expect upon arrival. Will also respond to all e-mails if you need further advice ! Lets go!!
